Hello! Welcome to Snakes and Sparklers, a blog by me, Brendan Menapace. If you don’t know me, let me introduce myself. I’m a writer living in Philly. My work has appeared in much more reputable publications than this, like Vice, Grammy.com, PhillyVoice, WXPN and more.
There’s not much here right now, but rest assured I’m working hard behind the scenes to pack this puppy full of content for you.
Lately, I feel like I haven’t been doing enough writing to really call myself a writer. The magazine I wrote for for years is no longer with us (Jump forever), freelance budgets are precarious, and frankly a lot of my ideas are stupid. So, I’m going the ol’ punk rock route and fixing that by doing it myself.
In an effort to continue to write regularly—and write about things that I like and have fun in the process—I’m starting this blog.
So, what can you, my beloved reader, expect from here on out? Pretty much whatever I want, really. If you’ve read things I’ve published for other sites and publications, you know that I write a lot about music. I’ll do that here plenty. I also like a lot of other things, too.
There will be interviews and conversations with interesting people, features and human interest stories, lighthearted fun, streams of consciousness, and plenty more. The whole point of this is not limiting myself to anything.
Basically, this is a way for me to keep my brain and hands occupied on something other than panic-scrolling through my phone and flex the journalisming muscles.
Hopefully it’s fun for you to read. I’m glad you’re here.
